Threads app signs up 100m users in less than a week

Threads, a social media app developed by Meta, the parent company of Instagram, has experienced extraordinary success by attracting over 100 million users in less than five days, surpassing a previous record set by OpenAI’s ChatGPT app. The app was launched simultaneously on Apple and Android app stores across 100 countries last Wednesday. However, due to uncertainties surrounding EU data privacy legislation, Threads is not yet available in Europe.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that within the first seven hours of its launch, Threads had already gained 10 million users, and by Thursday morning, that number had exceeded 30 million. Within 24 hours, the user base had more than doubled, reaching the impressive milestone of 100 million users. These figures, sourced from data platform Quiver Quantitative, indicate that Threads currently commands less than one-third of Twitter’s reported 350 million user base.

Twitter, which has experienced some user dissatisfaction since billionaire Elon Musk assumed ownership, has undergone significant changes aimed at generating revenue, including job cuts and various updates.
