IT firms expect to increase hiring next quarter, ManpowerGroup says

Global staffing firm ManpowerGroup has reported that IT companies in the US have the most aggressive hiring plans for the third quarter of the year. The survey conducted by ManpowerGroup revealed that 55% of US tech firms plan to increase their workforce, representing a 10% increase from the previous quarter. While overall hiring projections for Q3 are expected to be 5% lower than in 2022, the IT sector remains the most robust in terms of hiring intentions. Other industries with strong hiring plans include financials and real estate, energy and utilities, and industrials and materials.

According to Ger Doyle, Senior Vice President of Experis, an IT staffing and project services company owned by ManpowerGroup, the hiring trend in the IT sector has never been more aggressive. Despite high-profile layoffs in the past year, 74% of IT employers in the US still find it challenging to fill open positions. The top IT staffing priorities include cybersecurity, technical support, customer experience, and full-stack developers.

While the US ranks second globally in terms of IT talent demand for Q3, the survey indicates that only 28% of employers worldwide plan to increase their headcount. However, within the global IT industry, 39% of employers expect robust hiring in the third quarter.

The survey also revealed regional variations in hiring intentions, with the western region of the US showing the strongest hiring outlook, followed by the northeast, midwest, and south. Large organizations with more than 250 employees are more optimistic about hiring than small firms with fewer than 10 employees.

Despite differing job market data from various research firms, ManpowerGroup emphasizes the resilience of the US labor market and the continued demand for IT talent. The tech industry experienced layoffs driven by the need for improved balance sheets, efficiency, and changes in customer behavior. However, the market has stabilized, and organizations are actively seeking skilled IT professionals.
