Officials in Alabama have stated that this trend has resulted in the deaths of four individuals who suffered broken necks and subsequently drowned. These tragic incidents, occurring over the past six months, were deemed “clearly avoidable” by authorities.
The victims in Alabama were involved in the more dangerous version of the challenge, where individuals jump or flip off fast-moving boats, leading to severe injuries upon impact with the water. Reports suggest that the force of impact caused them to break their necks, leading to fatal consequences.
Captain Jim Dennis of the Childersburg Rescue Squad in Alabama expressed his concerns, stating that there were four preventable drownings in the past six months, with the victims participating in a TikTok challenge.
